About Chakra Lodge

About Chakra Lodge

Chakra Ego Lodge and Private Retreat Center is located near the town of San Jeronimo, Perez Zeledon.  It lies between two of Costa Rica's most important national parks: Chiripo National Park and La Amistad (an international park shared with Panama) It is one hour from San Isidro and 2.5 hours from the nearest beach.

Chakra was founded by two Costa Rican biologists, who were passionate about preserving the delicate ecosystems of the cloudforest, while allowing people to enjoy the remote and seldom-explored terrain.  By hosting small and intimate groups at the eco-lodge, they provide a valuable source of income to the small neighboring town of San Jeronimo, while allowing people to truly get off the grid in a lush, vibrant environment.

There is no electricity at Chakra lodge and no wifi or cell signal in the main lodge areas, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the present moment - feeling, breathing, and interacting with their surroundings and with others.  The aim is to focus awareness on the way we view obstacles and challenges, as well as our reliance on modern comforts and false "needs".

The lodge is completely hand made, and the majority of the structures were built using reclaimed wood from the property. 80% of the total property (surrounding the lodge) has been preserved for reforestation and conservation.

Chakra offers 6 open air cabins and has a total occupancy of 18 guests plus staff.  The lodge is located 5577 feet above sea level and temperatures can range from 77 F during the day down to 50 F at night.  There are 2 hot showers, 3 flushing toilets and a complete kitchen where a local families prepare your meals.  All special dietary needs can be taken into consideration.

Bilingual guides are provided for all yoga instruction and adventures; to include rappelling, hiking, mountain climbing, tree climbing, rock climbing, nature walks, coffee tours and Chakra give back projects.

Things to Consider

Things to Consider
  • A valid passport is required

  • Upon arrival to SJO airport, you will need to go outside and take a taxi to the hotel.  The official taxi color should be posted, although there will be one million people offer you a ride.  I have never had any trouble with any of the taxi rides I have taken. Depending on arrival times of flights, I can try to set up ride shares to cut down on cost.  Taxi cost into San Jose is normally around $25 USD.

  • You will need some spending cash for souvenirs and tips.  You can use USD, but you will receive change back in Colones at whatever rate is easiest for them to figure out.  If you aren't ok with this, you need to take money out of the ATM in Colones.

  • It is hot and wet in Costa Rica, be prepared to be hot and wet.

  • The hike up to Chakra Lodge is 3 miles up a mountain.  If you don't think you can do this, please get in touch with me so I can arrange transport for a fee.

  • You can contact me at any time and discuss any concerns or questions you have.  I have made this trip many times and can answer all your questions.

  • Still have questions? email me at justsayyesadventures@yahoo.com or call me at 812-325-8738
